Rory MacDonald
Anyone catch some of the 2 Bellator events last weekend?
Rory looks shot as a fighter, he was soundly beaten by Douglas Lima and never really offered any real offense during the whole fight...….but he thought he won! Not a great fight too.
Paul Daley did what he does and won by KO. Patrick Mix looks like a real prospect, that's the second time I've seen him fight, and both times he looked great. Nick Newell got his ass handed to him by a guy who was signed to lose to him, sadly.
Frank Mir beat Roy Nelson into retirement. Phil Davis won a boring fight by KO! Ed Ruth won a robbery, Jason Jackson clearly won their fight, but Douglas Crosbie managed to see it otherwise. Bec Rawlings lost a proper fight......she should go back to fighting girls pulled from a local gym in BKB!

Re: Rory MacDonald
Mousasi took Rory's fighting spirit. You could tell in that fight he had zero answers for Mousasi and since then he's been super reserved and not into the fight if that makes sense.

Re: Rory MacDonald
Rory doesnt have killer instinct anymore, could be a variety of reasons, like Merc said Mousassi beat him badly, he had a close fight with an aging Fitch which I thought Rory would blow him away, he was fortunate to beat Lima the first fight also....He did find God which may have taken his will to fight away. He's only 30 but does have some hard miles on him....Interesting to see what he does from here, he appears to be damaged goods at this point.

I like Nick Newell and I certainly respect the dude for doing what he does with his handicap, however, I'm not sure he should be in the cage

Tend to agree now. He clearly has some talent, but he should not be facing any top level fighters. Not that he really is, but even those he is fighting now are beating him easily.

Yea, against an older and slower Roy Nelson. Very slow and plodding fight mir used some inside leg licks which was the biggest weapon in the fight, Roy obviously had the right hand ready to throw but didnt land too much as Mir was moving away quite a bit. Even Coker after the fight suggested Roy should retire which is surprising considering some of the guys he has tried to milk dry.

Re: Rory MacDonald
It's just that the sporthas progressed so far in terms of fighters training techniques etc......even mid level fighters should be able to do enough against Newell to hurt himBluenoseGreig wrote:Kickass32 wrote:I like Nick Newell and I certainly respect the dude for doing what he does with his handicap, however, I'm not sure he should be in the cage

More than likely. He's hoping to get a rematch with Fedor though, that's not a terrible idea.

Re: Rory MacDonald
Fromwhat they said on the Luke Thomas show yesterday, there is apparently some decent fighters in next seasons WW tournament. It's decent money for Rory should he win the tournament....he'd bring in about 1.5 million for the yearjax wrote:He's just slowly making his way down the hill I guess....i dont even know who is in the PFL for him to fight.

Re: Rory MacDonald
Might be good for him, his last fight he wasnt fighting to win but wanted a sparring session avoiding a real fight, he's still young enough to turn it around.

Re: Rory MacDonald
Thing is his head isn't in it, he has that Uriah Hall thing happening where he doesn't want to hurt his opponent......even the mid tier, PFL guys can exploit that....hopefully he still has it mentallyjax wrote:Might be good for him, his last fight he wasnt fighting to win but wanted a sparring session avoiding a real fight, he's still young enough to turn it around.

Oh, didnt realize thats how it went down, good for PFL trying to get a big name into the tourny which could create some interest.

Re: Rory MacDonald
Yeah Scott Coker even said he was very surprised Rory decided to leave. IF and it's a pretty big, Rory wins the tournament he's probably further ahead financially...maybe even professionallyjax wrote:Oh, didnt realize thats how it went down, good for PFL trying to get a big name into the tourny which could create some interest.

Re: Rory MacDonald
I heard Rory on Helwani just after he signed with PFL, he said that Bellator wanted him to sign a new deal before his last fight but he wanted to wait......and Bellator never came back with another offer. He also said he's making more money in PFL than he has his whole career, so not surprising he's chosen to go there, whether there is good competition for him or not.

Re: Rory MacDonald
Exactly, a route more fighters should be taking too. Not just for the older guys(Rory is old in fight years!!) but doing this and building your brand by potentially winning a season or becoming a champion, all whilst earning better cash, gives them good scope to get a 'real' deal from the UFC when the time arises again.jax wrote:Sounds like a good move for him then, more money easier comp....cant go wrong really.
